Okoform heated desks may just be the answer to comfortable working, while at the same time saving on your heating and energy costs, so we are very excited to review them.
The ingenious solution is to provide a desk with a built-in heating. The founder is Peter Waine who, it is readily apparent, has a passion for both elegant design, but also design that gives the user some practical benefits. As energy costs continue to rise this is more than a welcome addition to the market.
So how does it work?
Well the desk has a built-in radiant heating element which heats you directly rather than the surrounding air. In this respect it is different to fan heaters and radiators which heat the air, which is inefficient in the sense that a lot of that heat is lost as it rises.
The majority of the heat is directed downwards so that when you are seated at the desk you are kept and warm and comfortable. In terms of the potential energy and cost savings, because it is just 260 watts the desks are 90% cheaper to run than the average fan heater.
There are currently two products on offer, the first is the minioko which is a static desk design. This is great if you want a very minimalist look.
The second is the minioko-up which is height adjustable from 734mm up to the standing 1234mm height, which really does the best of all worlds.
The build quality is solid, and when it comes the look there a few different options which is nice. The legs can be either white or black, and for the tabletop there are black, white or oak colour options available.
It is always nice when great design solutions actually make a real practical difference in your life. Any desk that can achieve real energy savings is something that should be celebrated, and this is a real step in the right direction. Time to be warm, comfortable and productive while costing less. It is a bit of a "no-brainer".
