You do not have to travel far in the world of ergonomic office chairs before being confronted by mesh backrests. So here is the ‘heads up’ on the main advantages and disadvantages.
Leading the charge for the advantages is the fact that mesh allows for breathability and ventilation.
Because of the open construction of the mesh it allows a significant degree of circulation of air while you are in the seated position. As working days only ever seem to get longer, the last thing you want to do is overheat in your chair. In addition to this breathability they are lightweight, durable and easy to clean.
They are also extremely good value for money, and in that sense a chair made of mesh is likely to be cheaper than a leather counterpart. However, that said mesh has definitely hit the mainstream and its minimalist styling can on occasion carry with it pricing that might make your eyes water. Fortunately there is still plenty of great value out there.
On the disadvantage front the main one that is leveled at the mesh chair is that it is not as comfortable as a leather office chair. While on some level that will always be right, but the surge in popularity means that for many that is not a debate which will even be had as mesh chairs are comfortable. Although durable over a long period it is possible that this might lessen over time.
Overall the tide of the mesh has arrived, however for our part that is only something to be embraced.
